Hello Hipster Soupsters

Monday, January 18th, 2010

See the About page for a general description of the course.

Our first session will cover where to find Linux distributions and how to download them and install them, and perhaps a bit of the history behind the open source movement and why community developed software is often a better idea than costly commercial products.  I hope to take the group through an installation so you can see the setup screens we all instantly forget and take a look at drive partitioning and discuss some of the problems you are likely to encounter when installing a Linux distribution on legacy hardware.

After we have a solid notion of who is in the group I’ll open the blog for new accounts and you will be able to post questions and discuss what you are learning with the other members of the class.

What about Knoppix and D.S.L. that fit onto a DVD or CD?
